E³UDRES² Voices:

Lukas Kroisenbrunner

December 2023 | #student

Introducing Lukas Kroisenbrunner, a Master’s student in Digital Business Communications at the University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten and one of the driving forces behind the creation of the E³UDRES² Board of Student Representatives. His long-standing commitment to internationalisation — first through the Austrian Students’ Union (ÖH) and later in E³UDRES² — reflects his dedication to shaping the future of higher education across Europe.

How did you come to be a member of the E³UDRES² Board of Student Representatives?

When I first heard of E³UDRES², I was already active in the ÖH of the St. Pölten UAS and, in this function, responsible for the internationalisation topic. As this is a matter close to my heart, I immediately decided to become involved in this great initiative on the student side. After about one year, I launched the Student Board together with some of my colleagues from partner institutions.

What are your tasks as Student Representative?

Roughly speaking, being a Student Representative is about giving a voice to the approximately 100,000 students in the E³UDRES² Alliance: firstly, via feedback rounds; and secondly, through own initiatives. All this takes place within the framework of the objectives of the European Union as well as the individual higher education institutions. Our biggest common goal is to offer the best and most future-oriented teaching and research for students, researchers, and teachers in European regions that are not exactly urban.

Lukas Kroisenbrunner - E³UDRES² Experience

What are you particularly excited about in this context?

One thing I'm excited about is that the EU institutions are taking a courageous step in higher education and research here. This is not something to be taken for granted but absolutely necessary for securing our geopolitical standing. On the other hand, I'm personally thrilled to meet interesting personalities from all over Europe thanks to my many years of working for E³UDRES². Be it other students, lecturer, or even principals of the individual higher education institutions – everyone works on the future of higher education in Europe together. And at the same time, we all grow our network to the size of Europe.

What are your learnings?

My principal learning is that it takes various different characters to successfully implement such a big initiative: the visionaries who, most of all, contribute large-scale and broad ideas; the makers who are intent on realising concrete measures in great detail. And then there are people like me who want to create processes and build bridges between the two aforementioned groups in the long term. E³UDRES² is definitely very well and diversely positioned in this regard.
