On June 7th, the Polytechnic University of Setúbal hosted the Open Science and Open Education Workshop, an event that facilitated sharing and collaboration among researchers, educators, students, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders from various European regions. With a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and online participation, the event provided a dynamic platform for exchanging ideas.
During the workshop, numerous innovative ideas related to open science were presented. Participants explored topics such as the challenges and opportunities of digital tools in education and open science, effective management of open licenses, and ethical considerations at the intersection of open science and citizen science. Politehnica University Timișoara, the Romanian partner university of the E³UDRES² alliance, contributed valuable insights on the use of digital tools in open science. Karel Luyben, representing the European Open Science Cloud Association, introduced the audience to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), emphasizing its crucial role in facilitating data sharing and collaboration across Europe.
The workshop was organized by Ent-r-e-novators, a project developed under the E³UDRES² alliance, which brings together researchers, entrepreneurs, educators, and specialists with the goal of analyzing and expanding the European research and innovation (R&D) landscape, always with a keen eye on open science guidelines and practices. The opening presentation of the workshop highlighted these ongoing efforts of the group to map the current potential of research and innovation and to establish solid foundations for future achievements.
Throughout the event, one of the main highlights was the discussion on responsibility and transparency in open education and science. With the increase in data access, the need for secure and accurate integration of this information grows. Participants debated ways to balance open access with data security, accuracy, and cross-sector collaboration.
The workshop offered valuable insights into current and future trends in open science and education, as well as creating networking opportunities among experts and colleagues in these transformative fields. This event represented a significant advancement in promoting dialogue and collaboration in open science and education, contributing to a broader discourse and establishing a solid foundation for future innovations in these critical fields.
