The last week of February, a high-level meeting on the European Universities Initiative and its role for European competitiveness took place in Brussels. Organized by the European Commission, the event brought together representatives from all 65 European Universities Alliances, Seal of Excellence holders, Members of the European Parliament, representatives of national and regional authorities from EU countries, student organizations, and private sector leaders.
E³UDRES² President Hannes Raffaseder joined the event and actively contributed to the discussions, participating in a panel with Roxana Minzatu, Executive Vice-President for Social Rights and Skills at the European Commission. Addressing an exclusive audience of 130 rectors and university presidents, Raffaseder emphasized the need for bold, entrepreneurial approaches in higher education to foster innovation and excellence.
Driving Innovation in Higher Education
One of the main topics Raffaseder pointed out was the necessity for universities to rethink and modernize their teaching methodologies, moving beyond conventional approaches to equip students with forward-thinking skills essential for success in an evolving job market. He also highlighted that especially through European University alliances, higher education institutions should make use of the necessary momentum for change. "To harness the full potential of these alliances we must be entrepreneurial and focus on pioneering game-changers to overcome the more and more of the same approaches that are still widespread in Europe.", Raffaseder stated. Beyond preparing students for the labor market, he highlighted the significance of developing and attracting talent regardless of age, gender, origin, or social background. By accommodating this approach, higher education institutions can better support students in reaching their full potential and making meaningful contributions to society.
Discussions at the event also explored how European Universities Alliances can further contribute to Europe’s sustainable prosperity, competitiveness, democracy, and social fairness. With more than 450 participants, the event reinforced the crucial role these alliances play in shaping the future of education and skills development in Europe.
E³UDRES² aims to contribute to Advancing Skills and Innovation
E³UDRES² continues to drive innovation in education, emphasizing interdisciplinary and practical learning experiences. Through initiatives like the Talent Funnel, Windows of Opportunity organized at some E³UDRES² institutions, Future Appetizers, and many more, students and lecturers gain hands-on experience, engage in international collaborations, and benefit from mentorship programs.
By integrating cross-institutional learning and optimizing existing lectures, E³UDRES² offers students broader educational opportunities and global perspectives. As the European Universities Initiative evolves, E³UDRES² remains committed to fostering collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and skill development across institutions.
