For the first time, Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) hosted the Local Week of the E³UDRES² Hybrid I Living Lab Spring 2026, bringing together nearly forty students from across Europe for an intensive, collaborative experience focused on reimagining higher education. Held from March 16 to 20, 2026, at Buda Campus, set in the heart of an arboretum, the event centred on the theme “Shaping the Future of Higher Education – Together.” Participants from nine E³UDRES² universities formed five interdisciplinary teams, working closely with five stakeholders and guided by ten educational entrepreneurs.
Throughout the week, students engaged in hands-on problem-solving using the Design Thinking method, addressing real-life challenges and exploring forward-looking solutions. Key topics included digital collaboration and hybrid learning, sustainability on campus and beyond, university–community engagement, international and intercultural communication, as well as low-tech and offline educational innovation.
Community spirit & mutual support
Beyond the academic framework, the event fostered strong interpersonal connections and personal growth. Students developed essential soft skills such as teamwork, adaptability, and cross-cultural communication. Working in international groups not only expanded their understanding of diverse perspectives but also encouraged deeper self-awareness and confidence in tackling future challenges. Participants familiar with previous E³UDRES² events recognized the unique “E³UDRES² spirit” a strong sense of community and mutual support that emerges even during the most demanding moments. Despite the intensity of the program, students consistently found encouragement and collaboration among peers, often experiencing personal development without even realizing it in the moment.
The week was not only about hard work - an engaging social and cultural program enriched the experience. Highlights included a gala dinner in Budapest, and a trip to Gödöllő, featuring a visit to the Royal Palace of Gödöllő and its historical jewellery exhibition, as well as musical and dance shows by MATE talents. During the campus tour at MATE’s Szent István Campus in Gödöllő, participants also visited colleagues’ offices and enjoyed local treats, while the library, with its remarkable collection of old books, added a reflective touch.
The E³UDRES² Hybrid I Living Lab at MATE University demonstrated the power of collaboration, innovation, and international exchange. As students return home, they carry not only new ideas for shaping the future of higher education, but also lasting connections and personal growth that will influence their academic and professional journeys for years to come.
