An important delegation from Germany consisting of representatives of the academic world and stakeholders was led by the State Secretary Malte Krückels, on the 25th of May 2022, meeting with representatives from Politechnic University of Timisoara (UPT). The event took place at the Library of the Polytechnic University of Timișoara, where two cooperation agreements were signed with higher education institutions from the state of Thuringia.
In his welcome address, the rector of UPT, Prof. Dr. Eng. Florin Drăgan, presented a brief history of the Timisoara Polytechnic, underlining the multiculturalism of the city and the role that the German minority played in the development of the city. UPT runs cooperation programmes with more than 400 universities worldwide, has numerous double degree agreements with higher education institutions in Europe and beyond, and is currently carrying out an intensive campaign to Europeanise and internationalise its activities. Last but not least, the possibility of collaboration within E³UDRES², was also raised.
The event was followed by presentations from the State Secretary Malte Krückels, Prof. Dr. Jörg Wagner, President of the University of Applied Sciences Hochschule Nordhausen, and Dr. Claudia Hillinger, Director of the Department of International Relations at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, who all spoke about the importance of establishing cooperation agreements between German and Romanian partners, both in the academic and economic fields.
The event also included the signing of a partnership agreement with Hochschule Nordhausen and the extension of the Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreement with Friedrich Schiller University Jena.
